About Us » What We Do

At the turn of the millennium the people of world, through the United Nations, formulated the Millennium Development Goals aimed at halving world poverty by 2015.

Engineers Without Borders Canada (EWB) is the leading charitable organization dedicated to meeting this challenge. Formed in 2000, we are Canada's fastest growing development organization. In the past four years we have sent over 100 young Canadian students to work on 35 projects in 20 countries. Closer to home, our 10,000 members across the country strive to make Canada the most development-friendly and sustainable country in the world.

EWB is comprised of 22 university chapters located all across Canada. Its members are passionate about helping people gain access to the technology they need to improve their lives. We do so by contributing our knowledge, financial resources, volunteer time, skills, and collective voice to help communities around the world.

Our Mission

Engineers Without Borders promotes human development through access to technology.

Human development is about people: their desire and struggle to expand their freedoms and lead lives that they value. In this quest, access to appropriate technology plays a key role every day, people work to improve their technology, laws, institutions and governance in the complex circumstances that poverty, alienation and voicelessness create.

Members of EWB are passionate about helping people gain access to the technology they need to improve their lives. We do so by contributing our knowledge, financial resources, volunteer time, skills, and collective voice to help communities around the world.
